On race and sex and unexamined assumptions

“In our future you wouldn’t look twice” is the DASO’s slogan on these posters. The very fact that they have sparked such controversial debate and attack is indication that we, as a people and nation, are still so naive and immature in our views.

I look forward to this future whereby race, nudity and sex are free of unnatural prejudices and we focus on more important matters of our existence.

Constitutionally SpeakingThis blog deals with political and social issues in South Africa, mostly from the perspective of Constitutional Law. Written by Pierre de Vos.

I am part of a lost generation and I refuse to believe I can change the world

I realise this may be a shock but
“Happiness comes from within”
is a lie, and
“Money will make me happy”

So in 30 years I will tell my children
They are not the most important thing in my life
My employer will know that I have my priorities straight because
Work
Is more important than
Family
I tell you this
Once upon a time
Families stayed together
But this will not be true in my era
This is a quick fix society

Experts tell me
30 years from now I will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of my divorce
I do not concede that
I will live in a country of my own making
In the future
Environmental destruction will be the norm
No longer can it be said that
My peers and I care about this earth
It will be evidence that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic
It is foolish to presume that
There is hope

And all this will come true unless we choose to reverse it

There is hope
It is foolish to presume that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic
It will be evidence that
My peers and I care about this earth
No longer can it be said that
Environmental destruction will be the norm
In the future

You Lazy (Intellectual) African Scum!

Mind of MalakaThey call the Third World the lazy man’s purview; the sluggishly slothful and languorous prefecture. In this realm people are sleepy, dreamy, torpid, lethargic, and therefore indigent—totally penniless, needy, destitute, poverty-stricken, disfavored, and impoverished. In this demesne, as they call it, there are hardly any discoveries, inventions, and innovations. Africa is the trailblazer. Some still call it “the dark continent” for the light that flickers under the tunnel is not that of hope, but an approaching train. And because countless keep waiting in the way of the train, millions die and many more remain decapitated by the day.

A poem by Julie Peters called Tantric Philosophy on “finding God in the softness inside my mouth, the deep bruise of birthmarks, the red-cheeked back of my hand, and muscles like meat before I tenderize them”. :-)

Julie came in 1st place on the 2nd of January with a score of 56.2 at the Vancouver Poetry Slam.

About

Facebook | Last.fm | Twitter

Chasing Sunset, a subset of my main blog, is a collection of interesting, arty, whacky and totally whatever grabs my attention from across the web. Totally random, without theme or reason, I throw out there what I like, what interests, what inspires, and what intrigues.

For the life adventurers, my other blog, Making Lemons, is about inspiration, motivation and making a life out of living your dreams.

I also currently serve up a celebration of the human body in the form of Naked Adventures and Artistic Erotic. Both of these blogs are considered NSFW by the general populace but what do they know really.
